Creating NEW from reNEWable materials" Project Wins Double Honors: International Red Dot Design Award and GOOD DESIGN AWARD

Sony Corporation is pleased to announce that "Creating NEW from reNEWable materials," a joint environmental initiative by Sony and 13 supply chain partners including Mitsubishi Corporation which aims to achieve zero use of virgin fossil-based plastics, has been named a winner of the Red Dot Award 2026 in Design Concept category. The project has also been recognized with the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2026 in Japan.

The Red Dot Design Award is an internationally recognized design award based in Essen, Germany. Its Design Concept category evaluates ideas and prototypes for products, services, and systems, as well as design concepts envisioned for future practical implementation.

The bio-based renewable plastics introduced through this project have been allocated, via the mass balance approach*, for use in the truly wireless noise-canceling earbuds WF-1000XM6, the new flagship True RGB 4K television BRAVIA 9 II, and the in-ear monitor IER-M500. Sony will continue to promote the adoption of renewable plastics in its products, aiming to further advance the widespread use and social implementation of renewable materials.
